Temple Ark
The Temple, Congregation Ohabai Sholom, sought out MZA to create a strong stand alone sculptural form that would respond to the existing space while functioning as Ark and Bimah for outdoor services.
The resulting design is a series of faceted surfaces which appear to grow from the ground and look skyward referencing the tree of life. The sculpture is rendered in steel with a warm patina finish to compliment the natural stone finish found within the existing courtyard. Both weighted and weightless, the singular geometry expresses a timelessness accentuated by the play of shadows cast on the surrounding stone.
