Harmony on Music Row
Finding vacant land in Nashville has become a challenge as the city has grown and its urban areas have been infilled. Finding vacant land on Music Row is nearly impossible. MZA was approached by a repeat client who had acquired a quarter-acre clear parcel on Music Row with a desire to build townhomes. The site was also in a historic overlay district. MZA’s concept was to create a structure that was contextual for the history of the neighborhood and did not read like a series of row houses but was also modern in the usage of space. Referencing adjacent former single-family homes, the structure appeared much like the neighbors from the street in mass, height and materiality. Two of the three-story townhomes were street facing with three others facing the side yard, and parking provided at the rear off the alley. Each unit was also provided with its own 2nd story balcony. MZA served as the project’s interior designer, selecting all fit and finish for each residence.
