Moxy Nashville Vanderbilt
MZA developed the overall building design concept and provided interior design services for the six-story Moxy Hillsboro Village which includes 130-hotel rooms, 47 apartments, a 200-car garage and ground-floor retail along 20th Avenue in Hillsboro Village.
The brief from Marriott was that the public spaces of each Moxy should be unique and bring the local flavor of its location inside. With that in mind, MZA’s approach for the Hillsboro Village location was to look beyond the obvious music-based theme and focus on the other facets of the city that make it thrive: the restauranteurs, fashion designers, academics, and creatives of every walk.
Our concept for the public spaces was inspired by the historic Enlightenment salon – where a host would invite guests into their home for discussions on art, literature, and the politics of the day. The lobby and lounge spaces are particularly designed with this in mind, providing a range of seating options for people to gather. Each space is furnished with comfortable residential elements and various games such as shuffleboard, darts, and a pool table to stimulate interaction and activity. The bar is the central core of the lobby which blends the salon elements with that of the industrial architecture to create a dynamic environment to gather and share stories, drinks, and philosophies.
We worked with local fabricators Ferrin Ironworks on the steel components at the bar, the screens at the elevator lobby and canopy at the entry. They also collaborated with us on the public restroom community mirror and lounge mirrors. Southern Lights Electric provided the bedside lights in all the guest rooms and the custom lights for the public restroom community mirrors.
