Antiques Mall and Voorhees Building
Design for the adaptive reuse of the historic Voorhees Building and Antiques Mall began simultaneously, as part of a larger master plan. Located on 8th Avenue within The Gulch, these preservation projects served as the catalyst for future development of The Paseo, whose name is inspired by the connection between the two existing buildings. Each building was repurposed to accommodate multiple tenants, including restaurants, retail, and office spaces.
Work at Antique Mall includes new windows and stairs, sprinklers, common area, and new roofing and insulation. Existing wood floors and barrel-vaulted roof were preserved on the building’s second floor, while the existing floor structure is exposed from below.
The goal for the Voorhees Building was to maintain the structure’s character while updating the building facades and core to serve future tenants. Existing windows were enlarged, new windows were added, and the existing concrete structure was repaired and repainted. Inside, an existing freight elevator was replaced with two new passenger elevators: one of these elevators accesses a new rooftop addition.
