Elsworthy Residence
MZA was commissioned to transform a 1940s Nashville home in the Oak Hill neighborhood into a traditional family home. The original home had, over time, been patched together with awkward additions and mismatched rooflines. The challenge: remake the house without increasing its footprint or infringing on strict zoning regulations. MZA worked with the young couple to craft a sophisticated, modern plan that added two bedrooms, library, laundry, and a partial second floor for the master suite. A new living room with clerestory windows introduces natural light and volume, while a bonus room above the garage creates flexible play space with a sense of retreat. The outcome is a synthesis of sophistication and practicality, warm, bright, and poised to grow with the family for years to come.
