University School of Nashville Cafeteria
MZA designed a 7500 SF renovation and 2000 SF. LEED Gold expansion of USN’s food services and cafeteria. The project includes a full redesign of the kitchen equipment and food storage, a new concessions area for athletic events, supplemental accommodations for the after school program, and seating for an additional 60 students.
The new space is designed to encourage upper school students to use the cafeteria for lunch by creating a mezzanine level with tiered, casual seating and a connection to the 2nd floor music and dance studios. Clad in 1’ x 4’ flat lock copper shingles, the first piece of modern architecture on USN’s 98 year old campus gives the school an “architectural identity” at the corner of a major Nashville intersection, and allows the personality of USN to be distinct from the adjacent Vanderbilt University buildings.
