House on Sunset

Building on the clients' request for a modern use of space with a mix of familiar materials, this custom house design for a family of 5 also included a professional studio space for writing and recording, a finished attic “hang space” for the kids accessed via a “secret stair”, an outdoor fireplace, an attached "pool house" with a kitchenette, and large back patio with a lap pool.  A voluminous space for the family to gather was another client request - MZA added whimsical square windows in the south end of the open, vaulted living room that create shapes of light which move across the space as the sun moves. Responding to our musician/singer-songwriter/producer client’s concerns for family privacy, MZA nestled the house into 4 acres of woods, intentionally secluded from view from the street or any neighbor. MZA also provided interior design guidance throughout the project.
