Belmont Hillsboro Four Square Renovation
MZA was hired to transform this traditional four square brick home into a modern residence which embraced the owners’ life style and opened to the back yard.
The home’s six-year old kitchen remodel was in need of repair already and the decision was made to remove the back portion of the house and push it south 16’. This enlarged the kitchen dramatically and created a walk in pantry, and a conjoined living space facing the back yard. A 2-sided (indoor-outdoor) fireplace was added, as was a new wrap around deck. The previous children’s playroom was converted to a mudroom and a powder room was added. The basement, formerly all storage space, was renovated and finished, to create a proper laundry room and a wine room, and the lower level space beneath the kitchen became a new family room which opened to grade.
The upper floor had a bedroom and bathroom added, as well as creating a larger play space for the kids, with a “secret” stair that descended into the 1st floor home office. Custom full height doors and windows on the south façade help facilitate the interior’s opening up to the rear, and create a greater feeling of connectedness to the outdoors.
