After several years of planning, we are thrilled to begin 2023 by announcing our Towards an Inclusive Architecture Scholarship program.

The work we do as Architects impacts a huge cross section of people, and it is vitally important that the field of architectural practitioners better reflects the communities we serve. We recognize that a diverse profession leads to better design by embracing divergent perspectives, experience, and knowledge. In the spirit of building a more inclusive profession, Manuel Zeitlin Architects has established the Towards an Inclusive Architecture Scholarship program to help bolster a path for more persons of color in the field of Architecture.

The Towards an Inclusive Architecture Scholarship is an endowment that helps create a path for Tennesseans of color to start an architectural education and seeks to nurture individuals entering the profession. The scholarship provides both funds to help pay for their education at the architecture school of their choice and to create opportunities for professional development through priority placement in internship programs at participating partner firms.

The combination of education funds with an opportunity for a paid internship at a partnering firm is a unique feature of the Towards an Inclusive Architecture Scholarship program. It not only allows the recipient to begin their education, but also follows through with a boost to help push them over the finish line.

We recognize the imperative of supporting and fostering diversity and representation in Architecture and Design and see an immense opportunity to nurture pathways to success for the young people who are the future of our field. We look forward to awarding the first scholarship in the Fall of 2023.

The scholarship is managed by the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee, and applications are open through February 1, 2023. Interested students can reach out to their university’s office of financial aid for information on how to apply or follow this link directly to the CFMT’s website.
